If the Information Maintenance Principle holds — that maintaining false narratives requires measurable energy investment — we would expect to observe visible deterioration in individuals carrying the highest maintenance burdens. The following publicly documented cases are consistent with this hypothesis.
HIGH-OFFICE DETERIORATION
U.S. presidents consistently show dramatic physical aging across their terms. Before-and-after photographs are widely published. The standard explanation is stress. The Framework asks: what specifically about the role generates that stress? The maintenance burden of navigating classified information, public narratives, and institutional contradictions simultaneously may be a contributing factor.
INSTITUTIONAL EXHAUSTION
Benedict XVI became the first pope to resign in 600 years, publicly citing that he “no longer had the strength.” Francis is wheelchair-bound. The Framework observes that the Vatican represents an extraordinarily high-maintenance environment — 2,000 years of institutional history, an infallibility doctrine, and 1.3 billion observers creating maximum narrative maintenance demands.
